Friend gifts have no family script. The gift has to say I know you. The miss is picking a cute object from the wrong lane — a gratitude journal for the friend who wanted a speaker, or a photo book when you are not actually that close.
The decision that actually matters
1. Which lane is this friendship? Thoughtful (they are in a hard or big season), fun (the next hangout), or loving roast (a joke that is yours together). If you cannot name the lane, do not buy the journal or the AirTag.
2. How close are you, really? A bound photo book is a milestone gift. A clip speaker is a Tuesday gift. Do not skip a rung.
3. Do they already own this? A second bottle they will not switch to is clutter. Film they will not buy again is a tax, not a camera.
